Our Take
Our Take
Ah, the epitome of progressive rock excess – Emerson Lake & Palmer's Tarkus. This album is a sonic rollercoaster, a wild ride of fantastical imagery and intricate musicality that will leave you both exhilarated and utterly perplexed. From the bombastic title track, with its earth-shaking drum solos and otherworldly synthesizer wails, to the delicate serenade of "Jeremy Bender," this album is a true display of the band's virtuosic abilities.
Like a mad scientist conducting a symphony, Keith Emerson's dazzling keyboard work is the driving force behind Tarkus, injecting a dose of frenetic energy into each track. Greg Lake's vocals provide a sense of grounding amidst the chaos, his velvety tones soaring over the cacophony of sound. And let's not forget Carl Palmer's thunderous drumming, a relentless force that propels the music forward with unyielding force.
With its ambitious concept and epic compositions, Tarkus is not for the faint of heart. It's a whirlwind journey through a fantastical landscape, where mythical creatures and cosmic battles collide in a whirlwind of sound. Love it or hate it, one thing is for sure – Emerson Lake & Palmer have crafted a truly unforgettable musical experience that will leave you questioning everything you thought you knew about rock and roll. So buckle up, dear reader, and prepare to be taken on a mind-bending journey through the sonic cosmos with Tarkus.

About the artist
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Emerson Lake & Palmer, or ELP as they are affectionately known by their legions of devoted fans, are a progressive rock supergroup hailing from merry old England. The trio consists of Keith Emerson on keyboards, Greg Lake on guitar and vocals, and Carl Palmer on drums. Formed in the early 1970s, ELP quickly made a name for themselves with their intricate and virtuosic blend of classical, jazz, and rock influences. Emerson's lightning-fast fingers on the keys, Lake's smooth vocals and bass playing, and Palmer's thunderous drumming combined to create an unforgettable sound that solidified their place in the annals of rock history. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1970, showcased their unique style and garnered critical acclaim, setting the stage for a string of successful albums to follow. Classics such as "Brain Salad Surgery" and "Tarkus" solidified their status as one of the most innovative and pioneering bands of their time. But it wasn't just their music that set ELP apart from their peers. Their elaborate stage shows, complete with soaring synthesizers, pyrotechnics, and even a giant rotating drum kit, became the stuff of legend. ELP truly were the rock stars of the prog rock world, pushing the boundaries of what was thought possible in live performance. Sadly, the band disbanded in the late 1970s, but their influence can still be heard in the music of countless bands today. Emerson Lake & Palmer may have come and gone, but their legacy lives on in the hearts of fans old and new.
