About the artist
Lee Perry & Mad Professor
Lee "Scratch" Perry is not just a music artist - he's a living legend. With a career that spans over six decades, Perry has been at the forefront of reggae and dub music, earning him the title of "The Upsetter" for his innovative production techniques and out-of-the-box creativity. Born in Jamaica in 1936, Perry began his career in the music industry as a record producer in the late 1950s. He quickly made a name for himself with his unconventional recording methods, which included using everyday items like buckets and metal sheets to create unique sound effects. Perry's influence on the music industry cannot be overstated. His work with artists such as Bob Marley and the Wailers, The Clash, and The Beastie Boys has helped shape the sound of reggae and dub music for generations to come. But it's not just Perry's production skills that have earned him a cult following - it's also his eccentric personality and larger-than-life persona. Known for his colourful outfits, wild hair, and penchant for cryptic statements, Perry is a true original in an industry that often values conformity over creativity. In recent years, Perry has continued to push boundaries with his music, releasing a string of critically acclaimed albums and collaborating with a new generation of artists. With his unmistakable voice and infectious energy, Lee "Scratch" Perry remains a force to be reckoned with in the music world - and we can't wait to see what he does next.
