Our Take

SAVATAGE's Streets - A Rock Opera is a bombastic journey through the gritty streets of a fictional city that feels like a mix between Gotham and Detroit. With its blend of heavy metal riffs and theatrical storytelling, this album is as epic as a superhero blockbuster.

From the opening track "Streets," you are immediately thrown into a world of dark alleyways and larger-than-life characters. The band's guitar work is razor-sharp, slicing through the air like a gleaming blade. And don't get me started on the vocal performances - they are so powerful, they could make even the most hardened listener shed a tear.

But what truly sets this album apart is its narrative. Each song tells a different chapter of the story, from the tragic tale of a fallen hero in "Jesus Saves" to the chaotic energy of "Tonight He Grins Again." It's like a rock 'n' roll version of Les Misérables, but with more leather jackets and electric guitars.

Sure, some may scoff at the idea of a rock opera in this day and age, but SAVATAGE pulls it off with style and flair. It's like they took a sledgehammer to the concept and rebuilt it from the ground up. Streets - A Rock Opera is a wild, thrilling ride that will leave you breathless and begging for more. Don't miss out on this epic musical adventure.

About the artist

Savatage

Formed in Tarpon Springs, Florida in 1979, Savatage is a band that defies all traditional genre boundaries. With their unique blend of progressive metal, power metal, and even elements of classical music, Savatage has carved out a distinct niche in the music industry. Led by brothers Jon and Criss Oliva, Savatage burst onto the scene in the 1980s with their debut album, "Sirens." Known for their technical proficiency and intricate song structures, the band quickly gained a dedicated fanbase around the world. Throughout their career, Savatage has released a string of critically acclaimed albums, including "Gutter Ballet" and "Streets: A Rock Opera." Their ambitious concept albums and theatrical live performances have cemented their reputation as one of the most innovative and boundary-pushing bands in the metal scene. But it hasn't always been smooth sailing for Savatage. Tragedy struck in 1993 when Criss Oliva was killed in a car accident, leaving a void in the band that would never truly be filled. Despite this devastating loss, Savatage soldiered on, releasing several more albums and continuing to push the boundaries of their music. With their blend of shredding guitars, soaring vocals, and epic storytelling, Savatage is a band that refuses to be pigeonholed. Whether you're a die-hard metalhead or just someone looking for something a little bit different, Savatage has something for everyone. So crank up the volume, throw up the horns, and let Savatage take you on a wild and unpredictable musical journey.
