The Rolling Stones have been rocking and rolling for six decades now, so it's only fitting that they get the honky-tonk treatment on this bizarre and yet oddly satisfying tribute album. STONED COLD COUNTRY takes classic Stones hits and gives them a Nashville twist, complete with twangy guitars, fiddles, and plenty of southern charm.
The album kicks off with a rollicking rendition of "Honky Tonk Women", with its infectious groove sounding right at home in the country world. Other highlights include a hauntingly beautiful cover of "Wild Horses" and a toe-tapping version of "Start Me Up" that will have you line dancing in no time.
While some purists may scoff at the idea of mixing the Stones with country music, STONED COLD COUNTRY manages to pull it off with style and flair. The artists involved bring a fresh perspective to these timeless tracks, breathing new life into old favorites.
Sure, there are a few missteps along the way (looking at you, "Paint It Black"), but overall this tribute album is a fun and enjoyable listen.
