Our Take

In the wild, wacky world of 80s rock collaborations, there are few projects as gloriously bonkers as Brian May's Star Fleet Project. Released as a limited edition EP back in 1983, this six-track beauty sees the Queen guitarist teaming up with the likes of Eddie Van Halen and Alan Gratzer for a cosmic jam session that's truly out of this world.

From the opening riffs of "Star Fleet" to the shredding solos of "Let Me Out", May and his merry band of rock legends take us on a galactic journey filled with soaring guitar licks and infectious hooks. It's like a sci-fi movie soundtrack on steroids, with each track zipping along at breakneck speed and leaving us begging for more.

But it's not just the star-studded lineup that makes Star Fleet Project a must-listen. May's guitar work is as jaw-dropping as ever, showcasing his mastery of the instrument and his knack for crafting unforgettable melodies. And with a production that's as slick as a greased lightning bolt, this EP sounds as fresh and exciting today as it did nearly four decades ago.

So strap in, dear reader, and prepare to be taken on a musical journey like no other. Brian May's Star Fleet Project is a rip-roaring, interstellar adventure that's sure to leave you reaching for the stars. Beam us up, Captain May – we're ready for takeoff.

About the artist

Brian May

Brian May is the eccentric guitar virtuoso best known as the iconic axeman of rock legends Queen. With his signature curly mane and love for astronomy, May is not your typical rock star. As a founding member of Queen, May's unique guitar style has become synonymous with some of the band's biggest hits, from the anthemic "Bohemian Rhapsody" to the headbanging "Tie Your Mother Down." With his mastery of the guitar, May manages to blend intricate riffs with soaring solos, creating a sound that is truly his own. But May's talents don't stop at music. In addition to his legendary guitar skills, May is also a renowned astrophysicist who earned his PhD in the field in 2007. Talk about a rockstar with brains! May's eccentricity extends beyond his music and academic pursuits - he even has his own unique guitar, the Red Special, which he built with his father from scratch. This guitar has become an essential part of May's sound and is a true testament to his craftsmanship and dedication to his art. Whether he's shredding on stage or pondering the mysteries of the universe, Brian May is a true musical icon who continues to captivate audiences with his otherworldly talent and charm. Long live the guitar god that is Brian May!
