Our Take
After what feels like an eternity (or just 14 years, but who's counting?), Metallica has finally unleashed upon the world Some Kind of Monster.
Upon pressing play, you are immediately hit with the unapologetic metal riffs that have become synonymous with this legendary band. From the thundering drums to the shredding guitars, Metallica pulls no punches on this album.
But what sets Some Kind of Monster apart from their previous work is the experimental edge that pervades throughout. Tracks like "St. Anger" and "The Unnamed Feeling" showcase a willingness to push boundaries and explore new sonic territory.
Of course, it wouldn't be a Metallica album without some epic solos, and Some Kind of Monster does not disappoint in that department. Kirk Hammett's guitar work is as blistering as ever, reminding us why he's considered one of the best in the business.
Despite its moments of brilliance, Some Kind of Monster does have its flaws. At times, the album feels a bit bloated, with some tracks dragging on longer than necessary. But hey, when you've been making music for as long as Metallica has, a few missteps are to be expected.
