ISAO TOMITA was a pioneering Japanese composer and electronic music innovator whose sonic creations left listeners both awestruck and baffled in equal measure. With a career spanning over five decades, Tomita's influence on the world of electronic music is immeasurable, inspiring a whole generation of musicians to explore the possibilities of synthesizers and computers in creating otherworldly soundscapes. Born in Tokyo in 1932, Tomita began his musical journey as a composer, studying classical music at the prestigious Kunitachi College of Music. But it wasn't until he discovered the Moog synthesizer in the late 1960s that his musical vision truly took flight. Embracing the possibilities of this new technology, Tomita set out to push the boundaries of what was possible in electronic music, blending classical compositions with futuristic synthesizer sounds to create a truly unique and groundbreaking sound. Tomita's 1974 album, "Snowflakes Are Dancing," which reimagined the music of Claude Debussy through the lens of electronic music, cemented his reputation as a visionary in the genre. The album went on to become a commercial success, introducing a whole new audience to the world of electronic music.
