As a founding member of The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers, he helped pioneer the sound that would come to be known as Americana. Parsons was not just a musician; he was a mythology in a Nudie suit. The Flying Burrito Brothers, with Parsons at the helm, blended traditional country with rock and roll bravado, creating a sound that was as smooth as Tennessee whiskey and as rowdy as a honky-tonk brawl. Their self-titled album, with Parsons on vocals, is a masterpiece of twang and swagger, setting the standard for country rock for decades to come.
