TEKE::TEKE's debut album Shirushi is a sonic journey that feels like being taken on a whirlwind tour of a mesmerising fever dream. Drawing inspiration from Japanese folklore and psychedelic rock, this Montreal-based band has crafted a truly unique and boundary-pushing sound that defies easy categorisation. From the opening track "Kizashi" with its haunting melodies and pulsating rhythms, TEKE::TEKE immediately grab your attention and refuse to let go. The combination of traditional Japanese instruments such as the shinobue and shamisen with electrifying guitar riffs and propulsive percussion creates a heady mix that is as exhilarating as it is unexpected. Tracks like "Yoru Ni" and "Barbara" showcase the band's ability to seamlessly blend disparate genres, creating a sound that is both nostalgic and contemporary.
