Our Take
Our Take
Black Sabbath's "Seventh Star" is the musical equivalent of stumbling upon a diamond in a pile of coal. This album, released in 1986, saw the legendary band veer off their usual hard rock path into uncharted territory. And let me tell you, it's a wild ride.
From the first track, "In for the Kill," you can tell that this is not your typical Black Sabbath album. With its bluesy riffs and melodic vocals, it's a far cry from the heavy metal sound they're known for. But fear not, dear listener, for this departure from the norm is nothing short of spectacular.
Tracks like "No Stranger to Love" and "Turn to Stone" showcase frontman Glenn Hughes' soulful vocals, adding a new depth to the band's sound. The guitar work from Tony Iommi is as electrifying as ever, proving that even when exploring new genres, Black Sabbath can still shred with the best of them.
But it's not all sunshine and rainbows on "Seventh Star." The album does have its missteps, with tracks like "Heart Like a Wheel" feeling a bit lacklustre compared to the rest. However, these hiccups are easily forgiven when you remember that this is Black Sabbath we're talking about. And even in their experimental phase, they still manage to deliver the goods.
So, if you're a Black Sabbath fan looking for something a little different, "Seventh Star" is definitely worth a listen. Who knows, you might just find yourself falling in love with this unexpected gem of an album.
