Our Take

St. Paul & The Broken Bones’ latest offering, Sea of Noise, is a delightful mishmash of soul, funk, and just a touch of gospel. This Alabama-based band has been turning heads since their debut album, and with this new release, they continue to prove why they are one of the hottest acts in the industry.

Lead singer Paul Janeway's vocals are like a smooth shot of whiskey – soulful, full-bodied, and leaves you with a warm buzz. The band's tight groove is infectious, with horns blaring, guitars wailing, and drums pounding like a heartbeat on steroids.

The album kicks off with the foot-stomping “Crumbling Light Posts, Pt. 1”, setting the tone for what’s to come. Tracks like “All I Ever Wonder” and “I’ll Be Your Woman” showcase the band's ability to blend old-school soul with a modern twist, while “Brain Matter” takes us on a wild, psychedelic journey.

However, the real standout of the album is the hauntingly beautiful “Burning Rome”, a track that will send shivers down your spine and make you want to light a candle in its honour. St. Paul & The Broken Bones have truly outdone themselves with Sea of Noise, creating a sonic landscape that is both familiar and fresh, like a warm hug from an old friend with a funky twist. This album is a must-listen for any fan of soulful, groovy music.
