Our Take

JANDO / KODALY QRT / TOTH dive headfirst into Schubert's Trout Quintet with the finesse of a synchronized swimmers on a sugar high. The opening Allegro vivace is a whirlwind of sparkling piano riffs and playful string melodies, dancing around each other like a group of tipsy revellers at a barn dance. As the music ebbs and flows, you can almost see the fish darting through the water, evading capture with ease.

The adagio that follows is a tender moment of reflection, like a quiet conversation between old friends reminiscing about the good old days. The cello takes center stage here, its rich tones adding depth and emotion to the piece. The Scherzo brings the tempo back up, with the musicians trading quicksilver solos like a game of musical hot potato. It's a high-energy romp that will have you tapping your toes and humming along in no time.

The Andantino - Allegretto that closes out the album is a dreamy finale, with the quintet weaving a tapestry of sound that is both meditative and uplifting.
