Our Take

Ah, MONO's latest offering, Scarlet Holliday. What can I say about this album that hasn't already been said about a bad Sunday roast? It's dry, overcooked, and leaves you questioning your life choices.

From the very first track, "Crimson Dreams," you're transported to a world where every guitar riff feels like a rusty nail slowly piercing your eardrums. The lead singer's voice, a cross between a cat in heat and a howler monkey on helium, is sure to leave you reaching for the nearest pair of earplugs.

But let's not forget the lyrical content, which reads like a bad haiku written by a teenager going through their emo phase. Lines like "I bleed scarlet tears for you, my love" will have you rolling your eyes so hard, you'll be seeing the back of your skull.

Overall, Scarlet Holliday is a forgettable album that tries too hard to be edgy and falls flat on its face. MONO may have had their moment in the spotlight, but it's safe to say that this album is a far cry from their best work. Save your money and spend it on something more worthwhile, like a decent pint at your local pub.
