Our Take
Millencolin's "Same Old Tunes" is like that one friend who always shows up to the party with a pack of lukewarm beers. You know what you're getting, but that doesn't necessarily mean you're excited about it. The Swedish skate-punk outfit have been churning out anthemic punk rock since the '90s, and this album is no different. With tracks like "Mr. Clean" and "Puzzle," they stick to their tried-and-true formula of fast-paced riffs and catchy choruses. But unfortunately, "Same Old Tunes" lives up to its name a little too well. The songs blend together into a blur of power chords and angsty lyrics, leaving the listener craving something a little more fresh and exciting. That being said, there are moments of brilliance sprinkled throughout the album. "Boring Planet" stands out as a skater anthem for the ages, while "Lozin' Must" showcases the band's ability to craft a killer riff. Overall, "Same Old Tunes" is a solid addition to Millencolin's discography, but it's not going to win them any new fans. If you're already a die-hard skate-punk enthusiast, you'll find plenty to love here. But if you're looking for something a bit more innovative, you might want to look elsewhere.
