Our Take
The Killers have returned with their sophomore album, "Sam's Town," and it's as quintessentially American as baseball, apple pie, and unironic trucker hats. But fear not, dear Brits, for there's something quite charming about this Vegas-bred quartet's attempt at capturing the essence of Middle America.
From the opening track, "Sam's Town," frontman Brandon Flowers declares his love for the dusty, neon-soaked landscapes of his youth, with anthemic choruses and heartland rock vibes aplenty. It's as if Bruce Springsteen and The Pet Shop Boys had a lovechild, and that lovechild joined a Las Vegas tribute band.
Tracks like "When You Were Young" and "Read My Mind" showcase The Killers at their bombastic best, with catchy hooks and a healthy dose of synth-driven nostalgia. But it's not all about teenage angst and small-town dreams; the band delves into darker territory with the haunting "Bones" and the introspective "My List."
