Our Take

Ah, the Tragically Hip. A band so Canadian, you can practically taste the maple syrup oozing from their amps.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of their classic album "Road Apples," the boys from Kingston have gifted us with a deluxe edition that's more bountiful than a Tim Hortons doughnut box.

The original tracks still pack a punch, with Gord Downie's distinctive vocals lulling you into a false sense of security before hitting you with lyrics sharper than a hockey skate.

But it's the bonus material that really steals the show. Live recordings from the band's heyday transport you back to a time when mullets were cool and denim was king.

The remastered sound is as crisp as a winter morning in Winnipeg, highlighting the band's tight musicianship and undeniable chemistry.

If you're a die-hard Hip fan, this deluxe edition is a must-have addition to your collection. And if you're new to the band, consider this your crash course in all things Canadian rock.

So slip on your plaid shirt, grab a cold Labatt Blue, and let the Tragically Hip transport you to a land where the winters are long, the poutine is plentiful, and the music is truly, authentically Canadian. Cheers, eh!

About the artist

The Tragically Hip

Tragically Hip are Canadian national treasures, a band whose name alone conjures up images of sweaty arena shows and anthemic rock tunes. Fronted by the enigmatic Gord Downie, the band became synonymous with Canadian pride and poetic storytelling over their three-decade career. These Canuck heroes first burst onto the scene in the late 80s, capturing the hearts of fans with their unique blend of folk-rock and Americana influences. With iconic hits like "Bobcaygeon" and "Courage," Tragically Hip solidified themselves as one of the most beloved bands in Canada and beyond. But what truly sets Tragically Hip apart is Downie's mesmerising stage presence. The man is a force of nature, captivating audiences with his quirky dance moves and impassioned vocals. His lyrics are both cryptic and poignant, often drawing on Canadian history and culture for inspiration. Despite their immense success in their home country, Tragically Hip never quite broke through in the US. But that's part of their charm - they're a hidden gem, a band that you feel privileged to know about. Tragically Hip's legacy lives on, even after Downie's tragic passing in 2017. Their music continues to resonate with fans old and new, a testament to the timeless quality of their songwriting. So next time you're feeling a bit nostalgic for those hazy summer nights of your youth, throw on a Tragically Hip record and let the music transport you back to a simpler time. Just make sure you have a cold beer in hand - it's what Gord would have wanted.
