Our Take

Demi Lovato's latest offering, "Revamped," is a tantalising reimagining of some classic hits, but falls short of reaching its full potential. Lovato's vocals remain as strong as ever, effortlessly belting out each track with passion and power. However, the production on this album leaves much to be desired.

The opening track, a cover of Elton John's "Don't Go Breaking My Heart," starts off promising with its infectious energy, but quickly loses momentum as it descends into a mess of overproduced synths and Auto-Tuned vocals. Lovato's rendition of Aretha Franklin's "I Say a Little Prayer" suffers a similar fate, with the original soulful gospel sound drowned out by unnecessary electronic flourishes.

Despite these missteps, "Revamped" does have its shining moments. Lovato's take on Bob Dylan's "The Times They Are A-Changin'" is hauntingly beautiful, showcasing her raw talent and emotional depth. The stripped-down acoustic arrangement allows Lovato's vocals to shine, proving that sometimes less is more.

Overall, "Revamped" is a mixed bag - a few standout moments surrounded by forgettable filler. While Lovato's vocal prowess is undeniable, the over-produced production detracts from the heart and soul that made these songs classics in the first place. A valiant effort, but ultimately falls short of reinvigorating these beloved tracks for a new generation.
