Our Take

HAMERKOP's latest album "Remote" is a mind-bending journey through experimental electronic music that will leave you feeling simultaneously bewildered and enlightened.

From the opening track "Distant Echoes" to the closing notes of "Lost in the Abyss," the album takes listeners on a sonic rollercoaster of glitchy beats, fuzzy synths, and otherworldly vocals. It's like diving headfirst into a pool of neon paint and emerging with a newfound appreciation for the bizarre beauty of sound.

One standout track is "Wandering Spirits," which features a hypnotic blend of swirling melodies and pulsating rhythms that transport you to a psychedelic dreamscape. It's the kind of song that makes you want to close your eyes and let the music wash over you in waves of pure bliss.

But don't be fooled by the album's charmingly off-kilter sound - there's a deep emotional resonance running through each track, a sense of longing and nostalgia that lingers long after the music has faded away. It's a rare feat to make music that is both intellectually stimulating and emotionally impactful, but HAMERKOP pulls it off with aplomb.

In short, "Remote" is a must-listen for any music lover who craves something out of the ordinary. It's a wild, weird, and wonderful ride that will leave you wanting more. So strap in, turn up the volume, and let HAMERKOP take you on a journey to the outer reaches of musical innovation.

About the artist

Hamerkop

Hamerkop, the New Zealand duo made up of Lucy and Erstwhile Pumice ringleader Nozomi aka Peter M Smith, could very well have been plucked from a Wes Anderson film set. Their whimsical, off-kilter brand of dream-pop sounds like the score to a surrealist rom-com where the main characters are played by talking animals. Their debut album, Remote, is a charming collection of lo-fi folk tunes that feel as if they were recorded in a cabin in the woods, accompanied by a chorus of woodland creatures. With Lucy's ethereal vocals floating over Peter's eclectic instrumentation, Hamerkop create a musical tapestry that is both soothing and unsettling, like a lullaby sung by a haunted doll. Their songs meander through unexpected twists and turns, taking listeners on a journey through a sonic landscape that is equal parts enchanting and eerie. For fans of bands like Grizzly Bear and Animal Collective, Hamerkop offer a unique take on the folk-pop genre, blending traditional songwriting with experimental production techniques to create something truly original. Their live shows are a spectacle to behold, with Lucy and Peter weaving a spellbinding tapestry of sound that mesmerizes audiences and leaves them with a sense of wonder. Whether you're a seasoned music aficionado or just looking for something a bit different to shake up your playlist, Hamerkop are definitely worth checking out. With their playful spirit and boundary-pushing creativity, they are sure to capture the hearts and ears of music lovers everywhere.
