Our Take

Ah, Great White, the band that famously set fire to a nightclub causing a tragedy - surely they've got some recovering to do themselves. But fear not, dear listeners, for their latest offering "Recover" (available in a striking red/white vinyl) seems to be a step in the right direction.

The opening track, "Once Bitten, Twice Shy", is a welcome blast from the past, with its infectious groove and catchy hooks. It's a shame that the rest of the album doesn't quite live up to this promise. Tracks like "Rock Me" and "Save Your Love" feel a bit tired and uninspired, like a worn-out pair of leather trousers.

However, there are moments of brilliance scattered throughout "Recover". The haunting ballad "House of Broken Love" showcases lead singer Jack Russell's emotive vocals, while "Mista Bone" brings some much-needed energy and swagger to the mix.

Overall, Great White's "Recover" is a mixed bag. While it's great to see the band trying to move forward from their troubled past, the album falls short of being a true triumph. Perhaps it's time for this Great White to swim in new waters and discover a sound that truly sets them apart from the pack.
