Mouse on Mars has always been a duo that likes to push boundaries and challenge the norms of electronic music. In their latest release, "Radical Connector," they continue to do just that, albeit with mixed results. From the opening track "Mine is in Yours," you're immediately thrown into a whirlwind of glitchy beats and distorted vocals that feel like a chaotic dance party in a malfunctioning robot factory. And honestly, it's kind of exhilarating. But as the album progresses, things start to get a bit muddled. Tracks like "Wipe That Sound" and "Send Me Shivers" feel like they're trying a bit too hard to be avant-garde, with their haphazard arrangements and jarring sound effects. It's as if they've taken a handful of random noises and thrown them together in the hopes of creating something groundbreaking, but instead, it just comes off as disorienting. That being said, there are moments of brilliance scattered throughout the album. "The End" is a hypnotic journey into a glitchy wonderland, while "Blood Comes" lures you in with its infectious melody and pulsating rhythms. Overall, "Radical Connector" is a mixed bag. It's clear that Mouse on Mars are still experimenting and pushing themselves creatively, but sometimes it feels like they're trying too hard to be different for the sake of being different. In the end, it's an interesting listen, but not one that will necessarily stick with you.
