Our Take
Godflesh’s latest album “Purge” is a sonic assault on the senses. Justin Broadrick and company have crafted a collection of songs that pummel you into submission with their relentless aggression and crushing riffs. From the opening track “Post Self” to the closing notes of “Crush My Soul”, Godflesh never let up on the intensity. The production on this album is top-notch, with every instrument and vocal line cutting through the mix like a hot knife through butter. Broadrick’s vocals are as intense as ever, his screams and growls perfectly complimenting the punishing music. The drumming on this album is particularly impressive, with machines providing a solid backbone for the band’s ferocious onslaught. Standout tracks include “Be God”, with its thunderous groove and haunting atmosphere, and “In Your Shadow”, a blistering track that will leave you gasping for breath. Overall, “Purge” is a triumphant return for Godflesh, proving that they are still at the top of their game after all these years. Fans of industrial metal will rejoice in the brutal beauty of this album, while newcomers may find themselves converted to the dark side after just one listen. 8.5/10
