Album Review: Venom Possessed When it comes to unleashing pure, unadulterated metal mayhem, Venom has always been at the forefront of the pack. With their latest release, "Possessed," the British metal legends prove that they still have plenty of venom left to inject into the world of heavy music. From the moment the opening track kicks in, it's clear that Venom are in no mood to hold back. The guitars are razor-sharp, the drums are thunderous, and frontman Cronos' vocals are as sinister as ever. This is the sound of a band who have been honing their craft for over four decades, and it shows in every bone-crushing riff and ear-piercing scream. But what sets "Possessed" apart from the countless other metal albums out there is its sheer sense of fun. Venom have never taken themselves too seriously, and that irreverent, devil-may-care attitude shines through in every track. Whether they're singing about hellfire and brimstone or raising hell in the streets, Venom know how to put a smile on your face even as they're pummelling you into submission. In a genre that can sometimes take itself a little too seriously, it's refreshing to hear a band who are still having a blast after all these years. "Possessed" may not be breaking any new ground, but it doesn't need to. It's a reminder that sometimes all you need is a few riffs, a lot of attitude, and a healthy dose of venom to make a killer metal album.
