Our Take

Ah, Matt Cardle, the man whose cheekbones are as sharp as his vocal range. Porcelain, his latest offering, is a mixed bag of pop perfection and cringe-worthy ballads. Opening track "Parachute" sets the tone with Cardle's powerful vocals soaring over a generic pop beat. It's a safe start, but one that will have you tapping your foot nonetheless.

The album takes a turn with "Anybody Else," a sappy ballad that feels like a rejected X Factor audition song. Cardle's heartfelt delivery can't quite save this track from drowning in a sea of cliches. "Nobody" provides a welcome reprieve with its infectious chorus and catchy guitar hook. It's the kind of song that will have you dancing in your living room, pretending you're at a Cardle concert.

As the album progresses, Cardle explores different genres, from the bluesy "Loving You" to the ethereal "When You Were My Girl." It's clear that Cardle is trying to break out of his pop star mold, but unfortunately, these experiments fall flat. The album finishes strong with "Maybe," a haunting ballad that showcases Cardle's vocal range beautifully.

Overall, Porcelain is a solid effort from Cardle, but one that fails to leave a lasting impression. While some tracks are undeniably catchy, others fall flat, leaving us longing for more. Perhaps Cardle's next album will be the one to truly showcase his talent, but for now, Porcelain is a forgettable addition to his discography.

About the artist

Matt Cardle

Ah, Matt Cardle. The man with the voice of an angel and the hair of a rock god. This former painter and decorator turned pop sensation first caught the world's attention when he won the seventh season of X Factor back in 2010. But don't let his reality TV roots fool you - Cardle is a true artist in every sense of the word. His debut album, "Letters," was a commercial success, earning critical acclaim for its soulful vocals and heartfelt lyrics. And let's not forget his chart-topping single "When We Collide," a hauntingly beautiful rendition of Biffy Clyro's "Many of Horror." Since then, Cardle has continued to push the boundaries of his music, experimenting with different sounds and genres to create a truly unique sound that is all his own. His latest album, "Time to Be Alive," is a masterclass in modern pop-rock, with Cardle's signature raspy vocals and killer riffs taking center stage. But what really sets Cardle apart from the pack is his live performances. Whether he's playing to a sold-out arena or an intimate club, his energy and passion are palpable, captivating audiences from start to finish. So if you ever have the chance to catch Matt Cardle live, do yourself a favour and grab a ticket - you won't be disappointed.
