Our Take

With a title like "Point of No Return," you might expect Malcolm Strachan to take listeners on a thrilling musical journey into uncharted territory. Unfortunately, this album falls short of expectations, serving up a lukewarm mix of forgettable tracks that fail to leave a lasting impression.

From the opening notes of the title track, it's clear that Strachan is a talented musician, with a seemingly endless arsenal of licks and riffs at his disposal. However, the lacklustre production and uninspired songwriting do little to elevate these skills, resulting in a collection of songs that feel more like background music than a captivating listening experience.

Tracks like "Funky Lullaby" and "Groove Machine" show glimpses of promise, with their catchy melodies and infectious rhythms. But these moments are few and far between, leaving the album feeling disjointed and lacking in cohesion.

Overall, "Point of No Return" is a missed opportunity for Malcolm Strachan to showcase his true potential. While there are certainly some bright spots to be found, they are overshadowed by a sea of mediocrity that prevents the album from reaching its full potential. Skip this one and save your ears for something more deserving of your time and attention.
