Our Take
Loch Lomond, the Scottish folk band known for their dreamy melodies and ethereal vocals, have taken a surprising turn with their latest release "Pens from Spain." Hailing from the land of bagpipes and kilts, it's a bold move to draw inspiration from the sunny shores of Spain. The album opens with "Sangria Serenade," a lively track that transports you straight to a bustling Spanish fiesta. With infectious guitar riffs and playful percussion, Loch Lomond proves that they can groove just as well as they can lull you into a trance. "Barcelona Blues" showcases the band's versatility, with haunting harmonies and introspective lyrics that tug at your heartstrings. It's like taking a midnight stroll through the streets of Barcelona, absorbing the rich tapestry of emotions that the city has to offer. However, not every track hits the mark. "Paella Party" feels a bit too on the nose, with its cliched guitar strums and predictable rhythms. It's a shame, as Loch Lomond had the potential to push the boundaries of their sound even further. Overall, "Pens from Spain" is a refreshing departure from Loch Lomond's usual sound. While not every track is a standout, the album is a testament to the band's willingness to step out of their comfort zone and experiment with new sounds.
