Our Take
The Cure's live performance at Paramount Theater in 1984 was nothing short of a delightfully dark and moody masterpiece. From the moment frontman Robert Smith sauntered on stage with his signature wild hair and smeared lipstick, the audience knew they were in for a night of gothic greatness. Opening with the hauntingly beautiful "Shake Dog Shake," the band immediately set the tone for the evening. Smith's vocals were as spine-tingling as ever, while the guitars wailed and the drums thundered in perfect harmony. The crowd was enraptured, swaying to the melancholic melodies and soaking in every angsty lyric. Highlights of the night included the infectious energy of "In Between Days" and the brooding intensity of "A Forest." Smith's stage presence was enigmatic and captivating, drawing the audience further into The Cure's twisted world with each song. As the night came to a close with the euphoric encore of "Boys Don't Cry," it was clear that The Cure had once again proven themselves to be the undisputed kings of gloom-pop. Paramount Theater may have been filled with darkness that night, but it was a darkness that left everyone present feeling strangely euphoric and alive.
