Our Take

The fifth studio album from dubstep pioneer Skream, "Outside The Box," is a rollercoaster of genre-bending experimentation that will have you questioning reality and reaching for the nearest glow stick. From the hauntingly beautiful "Perforated" to the bass-heavy bangers like "Wibbler" and "A Song For Lenny," Skream effortlessly blurs the lines between dubstep, techno, and everything in between.

One minute you'll be swaying to the melancholic melodies of "How Real" and the next you'll be headbanging to the aggressive beats of "Reflections." It's like taking a musical journey through Skream's twisted mind, and trust me, it's a ride you won't want to end.

While some critics might argue that "Outside The Box" lacks cohesiveness, I say that's exactly what makes it so brilliant. Skream isn't interested in playing it safe or sticking to one particular sound - he's here to push boundaries and defy expectations. And with guest appearances from the likes of La Roux and Sam Frank, he certainly succeeds in doing just that.

So grab a pint, turn up the volume, and let Skream take you "Outside The Box" and into a world where bass is king and anything is possible. Just be prepared to have your mind blown and your ears ringing - in the best possible way, of course. Cheers to Skream for reminding us all that music is meant to be an adventure, not just a passive listening experience.

About the artist

Skream

Once the enfant terrible of dubstep, SKREAM, born Oliver Dene Jones, has since transcended his early roots to become a true pioneer in electronic music. Hailing from Croydon, South London, SKREAM emerged in the mid-2000s as one of the leading figures of the dubstep scene, alongside the likes of Benga and Coki. His early tracks, such as "Midnight Request Line" and "Rutten," became instant classics, defining the sound of the genre. But SKREAM was never content to be pigeonholed. Over the years, he has continuously evolved his sound, incorporating elements of house, techno, and garage into his music. His versatility knows no bounds, as evidenced by his collaborations with artists as diverse as Kelis, Example, and Sam Frank. Known for his energetic live performances, SKREAM has graced the stages of some of the world's biggest festivals, from Glastonbury to Coachella. His DJ sets are a masterclass in genre-blurring, seamlessly blending tracks old and new to create a sonic journey like no other. Offstage, SKREAM is a force to be reckoned with on social media, where his irreverent wit and sharp tongue have earned him a massive following. Whether he's sharing hilarious anecdotes from his time on the road or giving his hot takes on the latest music trends, SKREAM never fails to entertain. In a world saturated with cookie-cutter DJs and producers, SKREAM stands out as a true original, a boundary-pushing artist unafraid to take risks and challenge conventions. With a career spanning over two decades and no signs of slowing down, SKREAM continues to push the boundaries of electronic music, solidifying his status as a legend in the making.
