Our Take

If Orion the Hunter were a meatball sub, it would be one that's been sitting out in the sun for a couple of hours - slightly disappointing and definitely past its prime. The self-titled album from this 80s supergroup (featuring former Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau and former Heart drummer Michael DeRosier) is a mishmash of cheesy rock cliches and uninspired songwriting.

From the over-the-top power ballads to the lacklustre guitar solos, Orion the Hunter feels like a relic from a bygone era. Tracks like "So You Ran" and "Dark and Stormy" try so hard to be anthemic rockers, but fall flat with their generic lyrics and forgettable hooks.

While there are some faint glimmers of potential on songs like "I Call it Love" and "Stand Up," the album as a whole fails to leave a lasting impression. It's like trying to catch a shooting star, only to realise it's just a satellite passing by.
