Our Take
Our Take
Ah, Muse. The band that managed to make classically-trained musicians cool again. Their second album, "Origin of Symmetry," is a rollercoaster of rock opera meets space odyssey meets just plain weirdness.
From the opening track, "New Born," you're thrown headfirst into a whirlwind of crunchy guitars, bombastic piano melodies, and falsetto vocals that would make Freddie Mercury proud. It's like Queen and Radiohead had a love child and raised it on a diet of Prog Rock and Red Bull.
"Bliss" and "Plug In Baby" continue the onslaught of anthemic choruses and stadium-sized riffs, while tracks like "Citizen Erased" and "Micro Cuts" take you on a journey through the dark corners of singer Matt Bellamy's mind. It's like stepping into a Salvador Dali painting and getting lost in the madness.
But don't let the high-pitched vocals and intricate arrangements fool you - Muse knows how to rock. "Stockholm Syndrome" is a head-banging masterpiece that will have you thrashing around your living room like a madman.
Overall, "Origin of Symmetry" is a wild ride that's equal parts exhilarating and confusing. It's not for the faint of heart, but if you're willing to surrender yourself to Muse's unique brand of musical madness, you just might find yourself in a state of symphonic bliss.
