Album Review: TOTO - Old Is New
In the grand tradition of bands reuniting for one last hurrah, TOTO has emerged from the depths of nostalgia with their latest offering, Old Is New. A collection of old classics reimagined and a few shiny new tracks thrown in for good measure, this album is a testament to the enduring power of 80s hair rock.
From the opening chords of "Devil's Tower" to the poignant ballad "Spanish Sea," TOTO proves that age is just a number when it comes to rocking out. Lead vocalist Joseph Williams still has the pipes to hit those high notes, and the band's signature harmonies are as tight as ever.
But it's not all sunshine and rainbows here. Some of the newer tracks feel a bit forced, as if the band is trying too hard to recapture their former glory. "Alone" and "Chelsea" lack the infectious energy of their older hits, and it's hard not to feel a twinge of disappointment.
That being said, there are still plenty of moments to enjoy on Old Is New. "Struck By Lightning" is a raucous romp that will have you tapping your foot in no time, while "In A Little While" showcases the band's softer side with its gentle acoustic guitar.
Overall, TOTO's Old Is New is a solid addition to their discography, even if it doesn't quite reach the heights of their classic albums. Fans of the band will find plenty to love here, but newcomers may want to start with their earlier work. Either way, it's worth a listen for a trip down memory lane.

About the artist
Toto
TOTO may be best known for their mega-hit "Africa," but there's so much more to this band than one catchy chorus. Formed in 1977 in Los Angeles, TOTO quickly made a name for themselves with their unique blend of rock, pop, and R&B. Led by the talented duo of David Paich and Steve Lukather, TOTO have consistently delivered high-quality music for over four decades. With their impeccable musicianship and tight harmonies, it's no wonder they've won an impressive six Grammy Awards. But don't be fooled by their polished sound and mainstream success - TOTO have always been a band unafraid to push boundaries and experiment with different genres. From their progressive rock roots to their forays into jazz and even world music, TOTO have always been ahead of the curve. Their most recent album, "TOTO FOREVER," is a testament to their enduring legacy in the music industry. It's a bold and ambitious statement from a band that shows no signs of slowing down. So whether you're a die-hard fan or a casual listener, TOTO's music is guaranteed to make you sing along, dance, and maybe even shed a tear or two. In a world of ever-changing trends and fleeting fame, TOTO remain a beacon of authenticity and talent. Long live the kings of yacht rock!
