Our Take

Oh, dear reader, brace yourselves for a trip down memory lane with Orrin Tucker's "Oh Johnny! The Golden Years 1938-49" album. This collection of swing classics is like a time machine back to the era of big bands and even bigger hairdos.

The opening track, "Oh Johnny!" sets the tone with its catchy melody and infectious energy. Tucker's band is tight, and his vocals are smooth as silk. You can almost imagine yourself back in a smoke-filled ballroom, dancing the night away.

Tracks like "Happy Days Are Here Again" and "The Night We Called It a Day" showcase Tucker's versatility as both a band leader and a singer. His arrangements are playful and inventive, keeping the listener on their toes throughout.

But it's not all sunshine and rainbows on this album. The haunting ballad "I'll Be Seeing You" will leave you with a lump in your throat and a tear in your eye. Tucker's emotive delivery is truly captivating, showing a depth and vulnerability not often seen in swing music.

So, dear reader, if you're looking for a taste of the past with a modern twist, look no further than Orrin Tucker's "Oh Johnny! The Golden Years 1938-49". It's a toe-tapping, heart-wrenching journey that shouldn't be missed. Groovy, baby.

About the artist

Orrin Tucker & His Orchestra

Orrin Tucker, the swing band leader, who's making a comeback that's more surprising than waking up with a hangover after a night of drinking shandy at the village fete in 1944. This cat, if you can believe it, is 108 years old. Yes, you read that right. 108. And he's still tearing up the dance floor with his infectious tunes that make you want to put on your glad rags and do the jitterbug until the cows come home. Tucker first burst onto the scene in the 1930s with his band The Orrin Tucker Orchestra, wowing audiences with their smooth sound and sizzling performances. They were the bee's knees, the cat's meow, the duck's nuts - you get the picture. But then, like many a musician before him, Tucker fell out of favour, lost in the mists of time as newer, shinier acts took to the stage. Until now. With a twinkle in his eye and a spring in his step, Tucker is back with a vengeance, proving once and for all that age ain't nothing but a number when it comes to making music that moves the soul. So dust off your dancing shoes, sharpen up your zoot suit, and get ready to swing like it's 1939 all over again. Orrin Tucker is back, baby, and he's here to shake up the music world once more. Let's do this thing!
