Our Take

Ah, the year 1980, where the hair was big, the fashion was questionable, and the music was...interesting, to say the least.

VARIOUS ARTISTS' Now - Yearbook 1980 takes us on a journey back to a time when synthesizers were king, and mullets ruled the earth. This compilation album is a mixed bag of hits and misses, with a few gems hidden amongst the dated tracks.

Opening with The Buggles' classic "Video Killed the Radio Star," you can't help but be transported back to a time when MTV actually played music videos. The nostalgia is strong with this one, but unfortunately, it's all downhill from there.

Tracks like Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust" and Blondie's "Call Me" are timeless classics that still hold up today, but then you have forgettable offerings like REO Speedwagon's "Keep On Loving You" and Christopher Cross' "Ride Like the Wind" that make you question your taste in music.

Despite its flaws, Now - Yearbook 1980 is a fun trip down memory lane for those who remember the era fondly. It may not be a masterpiece, but it's worth a listen if you're feeling nostalgic for the days of shoulder pads and neon leggings. Just don't blame us if you find yourself cringing at some of the musical choices on this album.
