Our Take
Saft's latest offering, Norrbacka, is a rollercoaster of sonic experimentation and bold choices that will leave you scratching your head in the best possible way. From the opening track, it's clear that this Swedish band is not afraid to push the boundaries of genre, blending elements of electronica, pop, and even a hint of avant-garde jazz. Lead vocalist Katarina Lundgren's haunting vocals float effortlessly over layers of ethereal synths and pulsating beats, creating a dreamlike atmosphere that transports you to a far-off universe where musical rules are meant to be broken. Tracks like "Lunar Love" and "Neon Nights" showcase Saft's ability to seamlessly blend catchy hooks with complex production techniques, resulting in a sound that is at once familiar and completely unique. However, Norrbacka is not without its missteps. The track "Kaleidoscope Dreams" veers dangerously close to self-indulgence, with meandering instrumentals that distract from Lundgren's captivating vocals. And while the closing track, "Northern Lights," is a stunning showcase of the band's talent, it feels slightly out of place in the context of the rest of the album.
