Our Take

The Body is back with their latest offering, "No One Deserves Happiness." And boy, are we in for a wild ride. This album is like a sonic punch to the gut, in the best way possible. The duo explores themes of despair, darkness, and, well, more darkness. If you're looking for a feel-good album to lift your spirits, look elsewhere. From the opening track "Wanderings" to the haunting closer "The Fall and the Guilt", The Body takes you on a journey through a bleak and twisted landscape. The production is dense and heavy, with layers of distorted guitars, pounding drums, and eerie synths. It's a wall of sound that engulfs you and doesn't let go. But don't let the darkness fool you, there are moments of beauty and even humour sprinkled throughout the album. "Adamah" features a gorgeous string arrangement that provides a brief respite from the heaviness. And then there's "Hallow/Hollow", a track that combines brutal heaviness with a sense of playfulness that is downright infectious. Overall, "No One Deserves Happiness" is a challenging listen, but one that is ultimately rewarding. The Body proves once again that they are masters of their craft, pushing boundaries and creating music that is both unsettling and cathartic.
