Our Take
Bread Pilot's latest offering, "New to You," is a rollercoaster of emotions, from the highs of catchy hooks to the lows of existential lyricism. The album feels like a whirlwind tour of a disorganised record store, with each track bringing something new to the table – for better or worse. The opening track, "Sourdough Blues," kicks things off with a bang, showcasing Bread Pilot's signature quirky lyricism and infectious melodies. It's a toe-tapping start that pulls you in, setting the stage for what's to come. However, as the album progresses, it becomes apparent that Bread Pilot's experimental tendencies can sometimes miss the mark. Tracks like "Crusty Love" and "Rye Not?" feel like they're trying too hard to be different, resulting in a jarring listening experience. That being said, there are still moments of brilliance on "New to You." "Whole Grain Serenade" is a heartfelt ballad that showcases Bread Pilot's songwriting chops, while "Baguette Boogie" is a funky, groove-laden track that will have you dancing in your living room. Overall, "New to You" is a mixed bag. While it may not be Bread Pilot's strongest effort, it still has enough moments of brilliance to make it worth a listen.
