Our Take

Simple Minds Neon Lights Review:

Ah, Simple Minds, the masters of 80s anthems and hair-raising melodies. In their latest effort, Neon Lights, the Scottish band takes a nostalgic trip down memory lane, covering some of their favourite tracks from the past.

The album opens with a stunning rendition of David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold The World", with Jim Kerr's haunting vocals giving the song a fresh and modern twist. The band continues to impress with their take on Patti Smith's "Dancing Barefoot", capturing the raw energy and emotion of the original.

However, not every track on Neon Lights hits the mark. Their cover of Kraftwerk's "Neon Lights" lacks the original's electronic pulse, feeling a bit flat and uninspired.

But fear not, Simple Minds redeem themselves with their faithful rendition of Neil Young's "The Needle and the Damage Done", showcasing Kerr's powerful vocals and the band's impeccable musicianship.

Overall, Neon Lights is a mixed bag of covers, some hits and some misses, but it's worth a listen for any Simple Minds fan looking for a trip down memory lane. Just don't expect every track to shine as brightly as the album's title suggests.
