Our Take

Ah, KISS. The kings of glam rock, the masters of theatrics, the...producers of a concept album about a mystical elder? Yes, you read that right. KISS's "Music From The Elder" is a bizarre departure from their usual hard-hitting anthems and iconic face paint.

This album is like a fever dream set to music. From the opening track, "The Oath," with its epic orchestral arrangement, to the haunting ballad "A World Without Heroes," KISS takes us on a journey through a mystical world filled with knights, magic, and, well, elders.

It's clear that KISS were trying to redefine themselves with this album, moving away from their party rock image and aiming for a more serious, epic sound. But unfortunately, the end result is more confusing than transcendent.

Songs like "Dark Light" and "Odyssey" feel like they belong in a fantasy movie soundtrack, rather than a KISS album. And the less said about the spoken word narration that pops up throughout the record, the better.

But for all its faults, "Music From The Elder" is a fascinating listen. It's KISS like you've never heard them before, and whether that's a good thing or not is up to you to decide. So grab your face paint, your sword, and your sense of adventure, and dive into this strange and wonderful world that KISS has created. Just don't expect to come out the same.

About the artist

KISS

Ah, KISS - the legendary rock band that needs no introduction, yet here we are, introducing them anyway. Formed in New York City in 1973, KISS quickly rose to fame with their iconic makeup, outlandish costumes, and unforgettable live performances. Known for their bombastic stage presence and catchy anthems, KISS has become one of the most recognisable bands in the world. With their larger-than-life personas, including the likes of Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, KISS has cultivated a devoted fan base that spans generations. Their music, a blend of hard rock and heavy metal, is as loud and in-your-face as their signature makeup. From classics like "Detroit Rock City" to power ballads like "Beth", KISS has a catalogue of hits that have stood the test of time. But don't be fooled by their over-the-top theatrics - beneath the face paint and pyrotechnics lies a band of incredibly talented musicians. With Gene Simmons's growling bass lines, Paul Stanley's soaring vocals, and Ace Frehley's blistering guitar solos, KISS is more than just a gimmick - they're a force to be reckoned with. So whether you're a die-hard KISS Army member or a casual fan looking to rock and roll all night, KISS has something for everyone. So grab your platform boots, throw up your devil horns, and join us as we dive into the wild and wonderful world of KISS. Just remember to keep your eardrums intact - these guys don't do things by halves.
