Our Take
Ah, System of a Down. The band that's always been a bit like Marmite – you either love them or hate them. And their 2005 release, "Mezmerize," is no exception. From the moment you press play, you're hit with a wall of sound that's as chaotic as it is catchy. The eclectic mix of metal, punk, and Armenian influences creates a truly unique listening experience that's impossible to ignore. Tracks like "B.Y.O.B" and "Radio/Video" showcase the band at their most frenetic and impassioned, with frontman Serj Tankian's vocals soaring over Daron Malakian's shredding guitars. It's a headbanger's paradise, but with a political edge that's impossible to ignore. But just when you think you've got them figured out, System of a Down throw a curveball with tracks like "Old School Hollywood" and "Lost in Hollywood," which veer into more melodic territory.
