The latest collaboration between the London Symphony Orchestra, conductor Antonio Pappano, and soloists Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha and Sarah Connolly brings Mendelssohn's epic oratorio "Elijah" to life in a way that will have you checking your windows for rainclouds and lightning strikes.
Pappano's dynamic conducting leads the orchestra through sweeping crescendos and delicate moments with the precision of a chef preparing a soufflé. Rangwanasha's soprano soars above the orchestra, conveying both the power and fragility of the titular prophet Elijah. Connolly's mezzo-soprano adds depth and emotion to her role as the Angel, providing a haunting counterpoint to Rangwanasha's vocal acrobatics.
