Our Take

Well, well, well, what do we have here? The Smiths' sophomore album, "Meat is Murder." Right from the title, you know this album is not going to be your average Sunday roast. Let's start with the cover art – a blood-red background with a piece of meat in the shape of a cow. It's like Morrissey is trying to slap you in the face with his message before you've even pressed play. And boy, does he have a message. The first track, "The Headmaster Ritual," kicks things off with Johnny Marr's jangly guitar riffs and Morrissey's trademark crooning vocals. It's like being transported back to a time when thick-rimmed glasses and floppy hair were all the rage. And then there's "I Want the One I Can't Have," a song that perfectly captures the angsty, unrequited love that The Smiths are known for. Morrissey's lyrics are like poetry – if poetry involved a lot of wailing about lost loves and unattainable crushes. But the real standout track on this album is "How Soon is Now?" It's like Marr took all his frustration and turned it into one hell of a guitar riff. You can practically feel the angst oozing out of your speakers. In conclusion, "Meat is Murder" is a classic album that will make you want to break out your old Smiths t-shirt and black eyeliner. It's a must-listen for any fan of indie music – just make sure you've got some tissues handy for when Morrissey's lyrics start hitting a little too close to home.
