Our Take

If Pitchfork was around in 1977, we can only imagine the snarky review they would have given Television's seminal album, "Marquee Moon." But lucky for us, we get to channel our inner music snob and offer our own take on this classic record.

From the moment that hypnotic riff kicks in on the title track, you know you're in for something special. The interplay between Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd's guitars is nothing short of mesmerising, weaving in and out of each other with a telepathic precision that borders on the absurd. It's the kind of chemistry that most bands can only dream of, and yet these two make it look easy.

But let's not forget about the rhythm section. Billy Ficca's drumming is tight and propulsive, driving each song forward with a relentless energy. And Fred Smith's bass lines provide the perfect foundation for the chaos unfolding above him, grounding the music in a way that is both solid and playful.

Lyrically, "Marquee Moon" is a masterclass in introspection and ambiguity. Verlaine's cryptic words leave plenty of room for interpretation, inviting listeners to project their own meaning onto the music. And with songs like "See No Evil" and "Guiding Light," it's hard not to get swept up in the existential mystery that permeates the album.

In short, "Marquee Moon" is a must-listen for any self-respecting music fan. Its blend of art rock, punk, and post-punk influences make it a timeless classic that still sounds as fresh and vital today as it did over 40 years ago. So go ahead, give it a spin - your ears will thank you.
