About the artist

Whitney Houston

Whitney Houston: Queen of the Vocal Olympics If vocal cords were Olympic events, Whitney Houston would have more gold medals than Michael Phelps. With a range that could shatter glass and power that could move mountains, Houston is undeniably one of the greatest vocalists of all time. Born in Newark, New Jersey in 1963, Houston was destined for stardom from a young age. The daughter of gospel singer Cissy Houston and cousin of legendary singer Dionne Warwick, music ran through her veins. But it was her powerhouse voice and unparalleled ability to emote that truly set her apart. Houston's self-titled debut album, released in 1985, catapulted her to superstardom with hits like "Greatest Love of All" and "Saving All My Love for You." From then on, she dominated the charts with timeless classics like "I Will Always Love You" and "I Wanna Dance with Somebody." Despite her undeniable talent, Houston's personal struggles often overshadowed her music. Her tumultuous relationship with Bobby Brown and battles with addiction were well-documented in the tabloids. But through it all, her voice remained a beacon of light in a sometimes dark world. Tragically, Houston's life was cut short in 2012 at the age of 48. But her legacy lives on through her iconic music, which continues to inspire and uplift listeners around the world. Whitney Houston may be gone, but her voice will forever remain immortal. Rest in power, queen of the vocal Olympics.
