Our Take

DEEP PURPLE Made In Japan Review:

In the illustrious history of rock 'n' roll, there are few live albums that can match the sheer electric energy of DEEP PURPLE's Made In Japan. Recorded during their 1972 tour of the Land of the Rising Sun, this double LP captures the band at the peak of their powers, effortlessly blending bluesy riffage with proggy theatrics and virtuosic performances.

From the opening notes of "Highway Star," it's clear that DEEP PURPLE mean business. Guitarist Ritchie Blackmore shreds like a man possessed, while Ian Gillan's vocals soar to stratospheric heights. Tracks like "Child in Time" and "Strange Kind of Woman" showcase the band's improvisational prowess, with extended solos that will make your jaw drop.

But it's not all about instrumental wizardry. Made In Japan also features some of DEEP PURPLE's catchiest tunes, like the anthemic "Smoke on the Water" and the groove-laden "Lazy." And let's not forget "Space Truckin'," a 20-minute epic that takes you on a cosmic journey through the outer reaches of the rock universe.

So, whether you're a die-hard DEEP PURPLE fan or a newcomer to their music, Made In Japan is a must-listen. It's a sonic tour de force that will leave you breathless and begging for more. In the immortal words of the band themselves, "Burn!"
