Our Take
After binging on Sherbet Fountains and a couple of pints of Old Speckled Hen, I dove headfirst into Pharaoh Overlord's latest offering, Louhiin - and boy was I in for a ride! This Finnish krautrock outfit, led by none other than Jussi Lehtisalo, takes you on a sonic journey that's weirder than a haggis sandwich at tea time. The opening track, "Mystery Shopper," feels like getting lost in a maze of IKEA furniture, with its hypnotic grooves and spacey synths that transport you to another dimension where Billy Corgan is king. Lehtisalo's vocals are like a siren's call, luring you deeper and deeper into the psychedelic abyss. As the album progresses, tracks like "Silent Week" and "Saturnus Reality" showcase Pharaoh Overlord's ability to seamlessly blend elements of prog rock, post-punk, and electronica. It's like listening to a mixtape curated by David Bowie and Daft Punk while riding a rollercoaster blindfolded - exhilarating and slightly disorienting. But it's the closing track, "Armour of the Zone," that really solidifies Pharaoh Overlord's status as musical wizards.
