Our Take
Turin Brakes have certainly found themselves in their own Lost Property with their latest album. The British duo's blend of folk and indie rock has always had a certain charm, but here it feels like they've misplaced the magic that made them stand out in the first place. The album kicks off with "96" a track that promises a nostalgic trip down memory lane, but instead feels like a lost opportunity to deliver something truly memorable. The lyrics lack depth and the melody fails to catch fire, leaving the listener yearning for something more. As the album progresses, there are moments of promise, such as the gentle harmonies on "Lost Property" and the infectious energy of "Jump Start," but sadly these are few and far between. It's as if Turin Brakes have lost their way, wandering aimlessly through a musical landscape that feels all too familiar. Despite its shortcomings, Lost Property is not without its merits. The production is polished, the musicianship is solid, and there are flashes of the brilliance that once made Turin Brakes a household name. But ultimately, this album feels like a forgotten relic, lost in a sea of mediocrity. In conclusion, Lost Property is a mixed bag that falls short of the mark.
