Our Take
Our Take
Long John Silver?? More like Long John Boring! Jefferson Airplane's latest offering feels like a relic from a bygone era, and not in a good way. The Summer Of 69 might have been a time of revolution and change, but this album just feels stale and uninspired.
The band's signature psychedelic rock sound is present, but it lacks the energy and excitement that made their earlier work so captivating. Songs like "Eat Starch Mom" and "Silver Spoon" feel like filler material, with forgettable melodies and lacklustre performances.
The album's saving grace is the standout track "Twilight Double Leader", a rare moment of brilliance in an otherwise lacklustre collection. With its infectious guitar riffs and catchy chorus, it's a reminder of the band's potential that is sadly not realised on the rest of the album.
Overall, Long John Silver is a disappointing effort from a band that once pushed boundaries and broke new ground. While there are moments of brilliance, they are few and far between, leaving listeners craving the bold experimentation that made Jefferson Airplane a household name. Stick to their classics and give this one a miss.
