Our Take

This Janis Joplin live album is like a whirlwind tour of pure rock 'n' roll energy, with the iconic singer at her fiercest and most raw. Recorded in Amsterdam, London, and various venues across the States, this collection captures Joplin's unparalleled vocal talent and electrifying stage presence.

From the moment she belts out the opening notes of "Piece of My Heart," you can feel the power and passion in her voice. Every nuance, every growl, every scream is delivered with such intensity that it's impossible not to be swept up in the music. Joplin's band, the Full Tilt Boogie Band, provides a solid foundation for her to soar, with tight, bluesy arrangements that perfectly complement her soulful vocals.

Highlights include explosive renditions of "Ball and Chain," "Summertime," and "Mercedes Benz," each showcasing Joplin's incredible vocal range and emotional depth. The live setting adds an extra layer of intensity to these already powerful songs, making for a truly unforgettable listening experience.

Overall, this album serves as a reminder of Janis Joplin's enduring legacy as one of the greatest rock 'n' roll singers of all time. Her music continues to inspire generations of listeners, and this live collection is a testament to her unparalleled talent and unbridled passion. Janis Joplin Live In Amsterdam / London & Stateside is a must-have for any fan of rock music, a raw, unfiltered look at a true legend in her element.

About the artist

Janis Joplin

Janis Joplin, the original queen of rock and roll, had a voice that could shatter glass and break hearts in equal measure. With her raw, soulful vocals and unmatched stage presence, she captured the hearts of music lovers around the world in the 1960s. Born in Texas in 1943, Joplin's early years were marked by a rebellious spirit and a love for the blues. She honed her craft in the smoky clubs of San Francisco before joining the iconic band Big Brother and the Holding Company. It was here that she truly came into her own, unleashing her powerhouse vocals on hits like "Piece of My Heart" and "Ball and Chain." Joplin's music transcended genre, blending elements of rock, blues, and soul to create a sound that was uniquely her own. Her performances were electric, with Joplin throwing herself into every note with reckless abandon. She was a force of nature on stage, captivating audiences with her wild energy and untamed spirit. Tragically, Joplin's life was cut short in 1970 when she died of a heroin overdose at the age of 27. But her legacy lives on in her music, which continues to inspire and influence artists to this day. Janis Joplin may be gone, but her voice will echo through the halls of rock and roll forever.
