Our Take

In 1960s London, there was a man named Graham Bond. Some knew him as a talented musician, others as a notorious wild card. But one thing is for sure – his music was like nothing anyone had heard before. And now, we have the joy of experiencing his unique sound all over again with the release of "Graham Bond Live at the BBC & Other Stories."

This album is a thrilling journey through Bond's live performances, showcasing his unmatched skill on the organ and saxophone. From the moment the first notes hit your ears, you're transported to a smoky jazz club in Soho, surrounded by the energy and passion of Bond and his band.

Tracks like "Walking in the Park" and "Train Time" perfectly capture Bond's raw talent and charisma, while slower numbers like "Neighbour, Neighbour" reveal a more soulful side to his music. And let's not forget the bonus tracks, giving us a glimpse into Bond's studio recordings and experimental jams.

Overall, "Graham Bond Live at the BBC & Other Stories" is a must-listen for any music lover. It's a reminder of a time when music was bold, adventurous, and unapologetically fun. So plug in your headphones, turn up the volume, and let Graham Bond take you on a musical journey you won't soon forget. Cheers, mate.

About the artist

Graham Bond

Graham Bond is often hailed as the godfather of British rhythm and blues, a title he surely wears with as much swagger as his tailored suits and signature pork pie hat. With a career spanning over five decades, Bond has dabbled in everything from jazz and blues to psychedelia and even a stint in experimental rock. Born in Romford, Essex, Bond got his start in the music scene playing saxophone in various jazz and skiffle bands before transitioning to the Hammond organ, a move that would ultimately define his sound. His pioneering use of the instrument, coupled with his raspy vocals and penchant for improvisation, quickly catapulted him to notoriety in the burgeoning London blues scene of the 1960s. Bond's collaborations with artists such as Alexis Korner and Jack Bruce laid the groundwork for what would become the iconic sound of bands like Cream and the Yardbirds. His own band, The Graham Bond Organisation, became synonymous with raw energy and electrifying live performances that left audiences spellbound. But it wasn't all sunshine and roses for Bond. His struggles with addiction and mental health issues cast a shadow over his career, leading to periods of obscurity and personal turmoil. Yet, through it all, his music remained a constant source of passion and inspiration. Today, Graham Bond's legacy endures in the hearts of fans and musicians alike, his influence reverberating through the annals of rock and roll history. With a discography as rich and varied as his life story, Bond continues to captivate audiences with his fearless creativity and unapologetic authenticity. Long live the king of British blues.
