Ah, the JAEJIN AHN TRIO's latest album, Lazy Stepin. What can I say about this record that hasn't already been said? Probably quite a lot, actually. From the moment you press play, you're transported to a world where smooth jazz meets avant-garde experimentalism. It's like if Miles Davis and Ornette Coleman had a baby, and that baby was raised on a steady diet of Earl Grey and crumpets. The trio's virtuoso performances are nothing short of mind-blowing. Jaejin Ahn's bass work is as dexterous as it is melodic, anchoring the group's sound with a sense of grace and precision. Meanwhile, Seungyong Ahn's drumming is a revelation, effortlessly shifting between complex time signatures and propelling the music forward with an undeniable energy. But perhaps the true star of the show is Jihye Lee's piano playing. Her fingers dance across the keys with a fluidity and finesse that is truly awe-inspiring.
