Our Take
Ah, love in Paris, the city of romance, where even the pigeons are flirting in the streets. Various Artists have taken it upon themselves to capture this essence in their latest album, "L'amour a Paris". But does it succeed in whisking us away to the cobbled streets and candlelit cafes of the French capital? With tracks ranging from sultry jazz to heart-wrenching ballads, this album is a mixed bag of emotions. The haunting vocals of Edith Piaf on "La Vie en Rose" transport us to a dimly lit cabaret, while the playful accordion on "Sous le Ciel de Paris" creates a sense of whimsy and charm. However, not all is rosy in the City of Love. Some tracks, such as "Je T'aime... Moi Non Plus" by Serge Gainsbourg, border on the side of cliché, veering dangerously close to caricature. Overall, "L'amour a Paris" is a delightful homage to the romantic city, but it falls short of truly capturing its essence. It's a bit like picking up a croissant in a touristy bakery - satisfying in the moment, but lacking the authenticity of a true Parisian experience. So, pour yourself a glass of red wine, put on this album, and let yourself be transported to the streets of Paris.
